Fun with the Kids Fridays: Duck Tape Rockets

Just like most mommas, I do a lot for my kids.

For my kids I...

make meals
do laundry
change diapers
wipe fannies
kiss boo-boos
break-up fights
plan parties
chauffer
make costumes
enforce chores
give baths
bring team snack
supervise homework
tuck in
get up in the middle of the night
...the list goes on.

I had this epiphany the other day.

I do a lot for my kids, but sometimes I don't do enough with my kids.

I would kind of like to rectify that situation.

So my solution is to try and do something extra with them each week. Maybe that will be with all of them. Maybe it will be one on one.  We can make something. Or perhaps we can do a science experiment. We can try something new.

Basically I just want to make sure to set some time aside to have fun with my kids.

I would like to share some of the things we do with you guys, cause you are the bestest.

Welcome to Fun with the Kids Fridays, where I share what ever fun thing the kiddos and I did that week.

Our first Fun with the Kids Friday comes thanks to Middle.

Duck Tape Rockets

He loves to build things. He had recently watched something about using recyclable materials to build things. He promptly went around the house and gathered supplies.

He brought me some supplies and asked for a rocket.

And he got his rocket.

He asked if his rocket could go on the blog. Then he asked if he was going to be famous. Gosh I love that kid!

Me: "maybe"
Middle: "yeah probably"
Me: "probably"
Middle: "at least a little famous"
Me: "for sure"
Middle: "it was my idea"
Me: "it toally was"

So here, just for Middle is how we made his Duck Tape Rocket.

Gather three toilet paper tubes. I may or may not have a closet full of them, waiting for impromptu projects such as this.

You will also need some Duck tape. I highly recommend the metallic silver and a solid color.

Cut some triangles from either a cracker box or a cereal box. Mine measure 4"x3".

Then of course you will need some fire. I used fabric scraps, but you could use construction paper, tissue paper or felt.

Attach the three tubes together with the solid duct tape, making two rings.

Then use the metallic duct tape to cover the rest of the toilet paper tubes. My method is very professional...ehem...

I unroll a giant strip of duck tape, I place the tubes at one end and then I roll up until each section is covered.

Leave the green showing. Cover each  uncovered section. Cover one of the ends to create the top of the rocket.

Now we need some wings.

Cover each wing with the tape.

Once they are covered, trim the excess off.

Then go in from the tall edge 1/2". Cut down about 1 1/2-2".

At the end of the rocket, cut a 3 to 3 1/2" slits on opposite sides.

Then slip the slit of the wings into the slits of the rocket.

Hot glue the strips of fabric to the bottom on the inside. I did the orange ones first, followed by the red ones.

Let them dry before the flying begins.

I am sure it will be practically impossible to wait, but the wait will be worth it.

I hope you enjoy making my sweet Middle's Duck Tape Rocket with your kiddos.

I mean the rocket is going to make him practically famous...that is what I am gonna tell him after all.

Middle will be famous now, Crafty kid creations craft blog newsletter is now sending people here. Kudos for reusing and recycling!
Besides, isn't there a television comedy about him?
lol
So that Sir Middle will be ahead of the pack, i'll teach him now that those projections are called fins, like a fish might have.
